I just got a mini speed boat with no battery. Engine is pull start. I would like to install a car style radio with 2 speakers and need to know if a deep cycle battery would run it without killing the battery in a few hours. Anyone know if this is posible? Any recommendations? thanks

Re: radio powering

Anything is possible!

It really depends on how much wattage your putting out to the speakers.

My 250 watt amp with 4 - 6 1/2" speakers and crossover network can kill my 2-12V battery's just as fast as my trolling motor...thats about 2 hours at high volume, 4 hrs at minimum listening levels.

If I am trolling the stereo is off! :D

There are times I think a boombox with its own battery is a better option 90% of the time.

A lot easier to install too.

Re: radio powering

You don't need 250 watts of power. You are on a boat. A single 12 volt battery will run a standard car radio for as long as you can stand to be on the water in one outing.
