50 hp evinrude fuel pump

I just got a boat with a evinrude 50 horse motor...Its a 71' i think..but the person who i got it from said the fuel pump is sucking air...he said a piece inside broke that is making it suck air,,,What part could of broke inside to do this....Please HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diaphram most likely. Replace with a new pump or get a rebuild kit.
