What the difference between a 1978 55 hp evinrude motor and a 1980 50 hp Johnson? What parts are interchangable and which are not? Most of the parts #s and after market parts are the same #s. Even rebuild sites have the 50,55,60 block rebuilds the same block #, but when I go to check out pistions part #s, they don't match. I don't understand the difference.

I have the two motors and I think that I can get enough parts between the two to make one good motor. Can I do this, anything that I am missing?

55hp difference from a 50hp Johnson

What the difference between the two motors, Most after market part #s are the same and a site called JOHNSON-EVINRUDE-BOMBARDER REMANUFACTURED POWERHEADS HAD THE 50,55,60, as the same head.

But when I checked on piston part #s, they do not match? I don't understand the difference in the motors or how this can be if that site is selling the same head for all three horsepowers.

I have a 1978 55 Evin and a 1981 50 Johnson. I think between the two I can get one good motor. Can this be done or am I missing something? I would like any advice and to better understand why the Horse power difference

The 78 55 used a 5/8 diameter wrist pin, other than that gasket set, crank seals and everything should interchange.
