Motor not charging battery

i have a 35 johnson, its ran fine all summer but the last couple times weve been fishing the batterys been dead at the end of the night. What charges the battery?

You dont say what engine.

But assuming it is supposed to charge the battery it will have a stator coil under the flywheel that produces an alternating current supply. That is fed to a rectifier which converts the AC to DC for the battery.

First check all connections then if still no joy test the rectifier following Joe Reeves' instructions on the "Engine FAQs" board.

If you have connected your battery "the wrong way round" even briefly you will have blown the rectifier.
