Hi All,
I recently changed out the impeller on my Mariner. After doing so, I have 2 questions:
1.Does it matter which direction (clockwise/anticlockwise) you stuff the impeller's blades into the water pump?
2.After reassembly, I get some water coming out of the telltale (where there was none before, so I think I did something right). However, I know I've screwed up fitting the gear shaft back in(proper terminology? I'm talking about the shaft that goes up and down as you move from reverse to neutral to forward). When I start it up now, it's considerably louder than before (like a put-putting) and there is smoke coming out of the lower end. I also can't switch to reverse after I start it (more evidence I fit the shaft incorrectly).
Before all this the engine ran and sounded fine, it just wasn't cycling water.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
