Changing the tach on '89 85hp Force

I have to replace the tach on my 1989 85hp force and can't find the necessary info. Is the alternator a 12 pole or 20 pole? I'm using an older Faria tach and their website does not list the 85hp force. All Force engines listed are 12 pole but they also state that some older engines are 20 pole.
