Ok Fellas here's the question, I bought a used motor for my boat. I checked compression and test ran the motor and checked lower unit for oil and water, also cleaned magnet on the drain plug checking for metal only finding a small amount of filings, however I did find a small amount of water in the lu and the oil was thick and black, so I flushed the lu and refilled with new oil ran the motor in the water for about 30 minutes then changed the lu oil again. When you spin the prop by hand you can hear a roaring noise, not a grinding like one would expect from gears but more of a roar as if it was in a bearing. I have talked with a few mechanics and have gotten different opinions, one said he knew a motor that had that noise and it ran fine untill the powerhead blew, others want to tear down and look, which is the same thought as I have, but I know of other motors that have the same noise in the LU when spun by hand, is this something normal for a V-6 lower unit or do I need to have it torn into and checked out?
