Default Mercury 100 questions, gear ratio?

1)What is the gear ratio on a 1976 merc 100?

2) Roughly how many foot lbs of torque would this motor have?

Thanks

I am curious as to why you want to know the the torque in footpounds?
I don't know the actual gear ratio I suspect its close to 2:1. As for the
amount of foot pounds well that is close to 55000ft*lbs. I might guess what you really wanted to know was newton meters, that is close to 74600N/m/s.

Generally horsepower is a term used to show how powerfull an engine is. It dates back to the steam engine. At that time hores's were considered the base of power all people could visualize. With the inventions of Newcomen's and Watt's steam engines, they were quickly given over to horsepower as the term to show how much power they could develope. A horsepower = 746 watts(745.69987155928) yet work is generally expressed in newton meters per second.

This assumes there is actualy 100HP at the propshaft.

Are ya talkin' 'bout a 10, (ten horse), 'cause they didn't make a 100 HP, (Merc 1000), in 1976? Hmmmmm.....? JR
