where are you guys that are restoring aluminum boats buting your zinc chromate primer ? id like to find it in atleast a qt size. seems like buying it in a spray can is an expensive way to go. does it have to be zinc chromate ? why wont a good etching primer work ? or red oxide primer ?

Scott Zinc is easy to find and rattle cans are fine . Go to NAPA and tell them you want the good stuff from the back . I am up to 3 cans on my boat and may need one more for the topside :D.you dont need a thick coat just a heavy dusting.

Be advised there are two types of zinc in paint.... chromate for aluminum and phosphate for galvanized steel.

Rustoleum sells a primer with zinc chromate in it but in only comes in gallon or larger.

NAPA Technique self etching primer. $9.something a can. I used 6 + part of a left over can of duplicolor I had.

OH, and get a respirator for that junk.
