I just bought a 14ft Alumacraft Deep V boat and the 1981 Mercury 25hp needs a new prop. I'm not sure how the boat handles now with the one that's on it now. I think I would like to at least pull a tube at some point with it. I'm wondering if I should just get the stock 3blade 10x13. Or Jump to a 4 blade? Any Suggestions?
No big deal but I doubt your little 14 is a true deep V.
I would suggest you do a base line test with a tach and a gps.
You can get a tiny tach about $40 and very easy install.
With a good base line we can get an idea of your setup and make some suggestions.I would check out the Turning Point rascal in the 13" pitch.
If your presently running a 13 you could get one but you really need to know your rpm and speed to evaluate your setup for best performance and motor health.
Thanks for the advice. I checked the prop tonight and it is a 13" pitch prop so I think I will buy a direct replacement for that since it is also the stock prop that comes on that motor and I will think about getting a Tach.
Steelspike - Actually, for a 14ft boat, its huge. It is almost 70" wide and is rated for 5 people/1150 lbs (motor, gear, people). I was surprised it was only rated up to a 25hp motor. I attached a couple of pictures so you can see.
Trim tab is missing .....that will be a Bear to steer without one...
Yes, that prop is shot too. A 13P may have come with the engine but that doesn't mean it's right for "that" boat and "your" load.
Thanks Walleyehed. I noticed something didn't look right and couldn't put my finger on it. I have to get a few more things for the motor and will be sure to get that as well.
