Fuel Pump & Engine ID Question

Hi All

Hope you can help me.

Bought a boat with a 25 hp Evinrude (2 stroke, electric start, 2 cylinder) and the engine will start (very reluctantly) and run for short periods and then stop (if I am lucky!). Throttle full and choke out, pumping fuel bulb helps. So assumed a fueling problem.

Pulled part the fuel pump and the leaf valve (inlet from fuel line) had corroded and was pourous. The rest of the pump, including the outlet leaf value looked in pristine condition.

Questions:-
1. Any thoughts on whether I need to pull apart the carb of would you guess that just the fuel pump needs changing? Could there be anyother explanation

2. The boat is 4 hr drive away (8 hr round trip) and I don't know the year or model of the engine. So I really don't want to have to go there and back just to find out the year/model. Is it possible to determine the part just on description. As noted it is a 2 stroke, 2 cyl, electric start, I think later than 1980. Fuel pump has rubber (neoprene?) seals except where it joins the engine case. Semitransparent white pump membrane, thin metal leaf valves. Carb cover is black plastic.

If I can guess the part/model/year this will save me a lot of hassle. Also if I suspect the carb needs reconditioning I may get a carb kit and fuel pump so I don't need to make repeat trips.

Can anyone point me to a thread to recondition a carb for this type of motor?

Thanks to everyone who replies!!!!!!
