While testing this motor in a garbage can, I get a gray oily discharge from water exit port. Is this normal when recycling tank water ?

If all else seems ok, I wouldn't be alarmed by it. In a can, you are recycling the same water thru the engine over and over and it gets pretty nasty. There is a lot of unburned oil being exhausted, especially if it isn't perfectly tuned.

Thanks for info, just what I was hoping for. I should have included L/U oil is perfect like new and engine runs warm to touch but not to hot to handle. Having problem with low idle, I just rebuilt carb but haven`t looked at coils, points, etc. Engine has been sitting for 12 years I had never run it, but it started right up and plenty of water coming out of port. Thanks again.

You may never get low idle right until you get the full throttle adjusted properly on the boat on the lake. Once that is set, then you should be able to get the low idle right where you want it.

also, the low speed circuit of the carb is independent of the high speed. You must be sure of the cleanliness of the ports of the low speed circuit. You may email me at kirbysbait@mchsi.com to talk further.. I'll give you my cell #. These motors are really awesome, but you have to be sure at each step in the progression. Then you'll KNOW it's right, and the fish caught will smile. haha..

Hope you contact me.

This project has become a labor of love. I purchased motor, old nice starcraft 12' boat, the kind that you have to work hard to make it twist when you try, weighs at least 100 lbs. Oars, anchor, fishfinder( paper ribbon style ), and so so trailor since upgraded to galvinized " Yachtclub ". I was told apon

Re: 54 fleetwin 7.5 grey discharge

I purchased this package from a co-worker in "1990". I was told that it had been overhauled by him. I paid $ 350.00 for the "54" fleetwin, vintage starcraft 12' boat, heavy solid, hard to twist, weighs at least 100 lbs., ribben style fish finder, oars, anchor, plus two pressurized tanks, both working. Life gets busy, and I hauled that package for 12 years and am now making a labor of love. I purchased this from from a co-worker that was mechanically inclined as am I. I have checked the compression which is 70 psi both cylinders. I know this is under spec and will run at 60 psi, but is it worth the money to fix this ? Also what is the cost ? I have cleaned and greased the linkage, and yes he installed all new coils, points, and condensers I guess the main question here is do I put the money needed into the compression problem, or this not a problem at all?
