Split in splash rail

I have a 1990 Smokercraft 16+ foot bowrider. A split opened in what I will call the splash rail, starboard side - keel like shape that runs the length of the boat at the waterline. Boat takes on water very quickly and will obviously require repair. Anyone with ideas on why this occurred and how best to repair so that boat is safe to use?

Weld..... a split that long will not survive with any other repair

Re: Split in splash rail

I should have mentioned the split is approximately 30 inches in length at this time

If it's a split in the aluminum having it welded is the only way. Post some photos ..... this is the first time I have heard of an aluminum split just happening

Re: Split in splash rail

Find a shop that does aluminum welding and then you will have to touch up with paint.

Had same issue on a 1985-ish Smokercraft from prior owner where it rubbed on a dock all season. Weld it as others have said. Will be ugly looking. Very.
