my son and I are going to restore a boat becuase we don't know any better. Any ideas what kind it is. The registration says 1952 Chris Craft but I have my doubts

It is solid except for the keel. As you can see by the pictures it has had a lot of layers of fiberglass and paint. We are What does your wisdom suggest for us to make this keel solid and waterproof. The wooden keel seems solid. Ugly but solid. It has a steel strip covering it.

take a grinder with a flapper disc on it and clean off that metal strip to find out how it is attached remove the strip and carefully strip it down to wood with the flapper to be sure the wood is good replace what is bad re glass the wood with epoxy resin and glass cloth and then paint it

it is a Chris Craft outboard boat. as said get the paint off. for restoration value, do not fiberglass it.
