87' Volvo GM350, freshly rebuilt (professionally) Holley carb, new fuel pump w/correct spec, new plugs, fresh fuel in tanks, dumps quite a bit of fuel through exhasut into water. Can also smell fuel as you run. Also fuel consumption very high.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like a carb problem to me, float issue perhaps. Better bring it back in.

Good luck.

Couple of things to check.
A choke that doesn't open will cause it to run rich.
Check the clear tube that goes from the fuel pump to the carb. If there is fuel in it, the diaphram in the pump is bad and you are pumping raw gas into the carb.
You may also have 1 or more cylinders not firing causing the fuel to go straight out the exhaust.
Would bet your engine has a very poor idle, if any and you have to keep it high to keep it running. Correct?????

Don,

Starts and idles perfect. Guess we are going to pull the carb again and go back through it.

Thanks,

Dan.

....Being as you report satisfactory idle, I'd be EXTREMELY interested in what size jets and power valve your 'professional' used in that Holley. Oh, BTW, what size Holley??

If it's got that much fuel in the water that you can see it, you must be stopped or you wouldn't be able to see it. Then the engine isn't idling perfect.
What rpm are you idleing at? and what are you calling high fuel consumption.
