I have had a Yamaha 150 SaltWater EFI OX66/150 sine 1999 with no issues until recently when I noticed some red oil leaking around the steering bar. I'm adding power steering fluid more often now, especially during warm seasons.
I'm not sure what's causing the leak and how to identify it. I prefer to do the repair myself to save some money, please help. thanks.
Re: Need your help with Yamaha power steering leak..
I know very little about marine power steering but my car's power steering was leaking and I added a bottle of Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak and after a few days it just quit and no more leak! Might be worth a try! Good Luck!
Re: Need your help with Yamaha power steering leak..
Seastar has a seal kit available. The model number should be on the steering ram so you can order the right kit. They sell a kit with the wrench or you can use a standard spanner wrench. Verify the ram is not pitted or damaged otherwise it will not seal. Being a few years old make sure the nuts come off the ram and the bleeder screws can be opened before ordering a kit. Be careful with additives they are designed to swell seals which may cause damage to the helm unit.
