I have a 92 40 HP Mariner 2 cycle outboard, been a great motor, but yesterday trolling the river was making a run down the bay to the boat ramp, when I got back I noticed the alarm wa sounding, off and on beeping, I though maybe it was overheating but it wasen't, I thought maybe the 2 cycle oil was low, but it wasen't....now I found that sitting and tottaly cool the alarm sounds just turning the key on, so I pulled the cover, located the head sensor, unplugged it not the problem, pulled the cover off the ignition coils and wiring, found the wiring not only goes to the head sensor but also to a little black box in the upper right side, I unplug the little black box and the alarm goes off. My question is, what is the little black box for? The motor runs fine with it unplugged. HELP!!:)

The magnet on the oil tank float has fallen off, unplug 1 of the blue wires that come out of the bottom of the tank if it stops then you know fo sure thats the problem.

I did that, still sounded the beeping alarm, I got to noticing that the black box has a purple wire, which i'm assuming is power, and a black wire for ground, I unhook the purple and it shuts off.....am I correct to assume its just an alarm box for the 2 cycle oil and the over heat sensor in the head? or is there more things hooked to it?

If unpluging the oil sender didn't stop it then the only thing that will cause it to beep is the oil module your talking about which only job is to beep the horn on startup and beep the horn when the oil is low. The tempeture warning is a stead horn.

Re: Help with alarm problem

Thank you Laddies, I feel better now. I knew it wasen't the motor overheating, so I figured it had to be something like that cause I made a long run up the bay, monitering it close, ran fine, and then with just the key on and engine cold, I knew for sure I didn't have to worry about overheating......I disconnected the box and I'm going fishing tomarrow, come tuesday i'll check into a new part, thanks again
