Tach wiring

I have a 1973 Chrysler 70Hp and i have a tach that has a purple wire, black wire, and a yellow wire... I want to hook this up cause i know it works on a 2 to 3 cyl. motor. My chrysler has a purple wire coming up to the key that isnt used. I dont know how to hook this up. I AM NOT GOING TO GET A TINY TACH!
