How do I remove a push-pull type steering cable from my 58A Mercury outboard so that I can then remove the engine from the boat? damal37

Re: Removal of steering cable

Hi,

Disconnect the link arm for the cable end.
Unscrew the cable nut on the starboard side of the engine where it goes through the tilt tube. If you have an old Ride-Guide steering system the cable nut looks like a finned cone rather than a nut.

Depending on the layout, sometimes you have to have the engine swinging free to get the cable out, or install it.

hope it helps
