Power Steering cooler restriction?

I am having a problem with the P/S return hose on my '89 4.3 merc. blowing a hole above the clamp where it enters the power steering cooler. I have blown air (with my mouth) through the cooler and it seems to flow with little restriction. Is it common for these to clog and cause problems?

I have cut the hose back and replaced it a couple times and it will blow within a minute at idle even without turning the wheel.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Re: Power Steering cooler restriction?

too tight or too wide of a clamp may be cutting the hose at the nipple.Really no pressure at all on the return line compare to the supply side (70-125psi). could the problem be from the cooler to the pump?
This link might help
