Top End Woes

After A Fresh Carbs Rebuild, Took The Boat Out For A Test Run, And This Is How It Went. Great Bottom End, Great Mid Range , But Once On Top End After The Engine Reaches Max Rpm, About Every 15 Sec It Has Dead Spot Or Miss? Until The Rebuild Wouldn't Hardly Get Up On Plane. Any Guesses To What My Problem Is The Engine Is A 72 Model Chrysler 105. Thanks

what was your rpms reading? you might have been hitting the rev limiter

Sounds like a "lean sneeze".
Not to sure how to repair this but, id recheck the timing and the link-n-sync.
Then if your carbs can be adjusted for top end, try richening it a bit. Better to rich than lean.

I DON'T HAVE A TACH. DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A REV LIMITER ON SOME:eek:THING THAT OLD. AND FOR THE LINK AND SYNC TERM HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS. I AM A GREENHORN SORRY.

Ok Let Me Ask This One On The Side Of The Engine Block Down Low Where The Main Fuel Line Goes In There Is A Glass Bowl Fixed To A Metal Housing That The Fuel Enters Is This A Fuel Pump Or A Filter? It Looks Like A Old Glass Bowl Sediment Filter Like That Was On Cars From The 40's.

These motors need a lot of fuel if I'm not mistaken. Does it have two fuel pump or just one?Can you give us some more info? Last tune, any other issues with it Moparman

OK HERE IT GOES, CLEAN POINTS AND SET GAP TO .019, CHECKED PLUG WIRES THERE GOOD SO ARE THE PLUGS. CLEANED AND INSPECTED CAP AND ROTOR. PUT NEW FUEL LINE ON AND PRIMER BULB, ALSO MADE SURE BULB IS ON THE RIGHT DIRECTION. CHECKED FLOAT HIGHT AND DROP. THE ONLY THING I SEE THAT IS STRANGE IS THAT AS YOU GO TO WOT THE DISTRIBITOR TURNS ALL THE WAY AS IT SHOULD BUT AT THE VERY END OF THE THROTTLE THE DISTRIBUTOR TURNS BACK A 1/4 INCH IS THIS RIGHT?:confused:
