What is the difference between electric, hydro-electric, and manual? And how do I tell what I have?

Re: Evinrude shift types.

Get up a model number and we can tell you, can be found on the starboard side of the engine mount or on a nickel size plug on the power head.

Electric shifts were made for a very short time, maybe 72-73, other than that I believe they are all mechanical shift.

Re: Evinrude shift types.

Thank you for your quick response. The model no. is 75543 B, J0001663 is the ser. no. So I now know that it is a 1975 75 hp. But is there anything else these numbers tell me? Based on what you told me it is not an electric shift.

Re: Evinrude shift types.

Yours may be, I am certianly not the most knowlegable on those, I just know they were only made for several years in that period, memory serves, and it often doesn't, the last year was 74 but I could be wrong.

Someone else will along soon that will knwo for sure.
