I just bought a new boat that has a 135 evinrude model # 135383M and it says starflite on the front of the top. Anyone know what year and info. if motor is good or known to have problems. Also it doesnt have power tilt or trim. Is that something I can add for cheap?

1973. Good motors, state of the art for the day. But had trouble with the changes in gasoline at the time. Also had trouble with stator meltdown--it probably has already been replaced long ago. Worst trouble was sudden water pump impeller failure resulting in instant destruction of the pistons. If it still has the aluminum pump housing, install a complete water pump kit which includes a platic housing with stainless steel liners like the newer motors.

Power tilt/trim? Sure. Got money??

Thanks for the info. Im guessing its the original motor for the boat since its the same year. Should I use a fuel additive to help with the ethanol deal? Im gonna look into the water pump kit. It did have a new pump put in recently according to previous owner.

Tilt/trim: depeneds on how much $$$$ I have no idea if its over $500 im not doing it for now. Not brand new
