Can anyone tell me where the thermostat is located in a 1988 Mercury 50 HP 3 cylinder 2 stroke? And Where can I find a wiring diagram or pics show the thermostat housing?
Thanks!

Re: Thermostat or not?

Your motor doesn't appear to have a thermostat. Here's a diagram which should be similar to yours:

To look up the exact diagram for your motor, note the serial # and check here:

Certain 3-cylinder models such as the 650 came with a thermostat, but since you had to remove the exhaust manifold covers to service I don't think they worked out well. Plus, they'd get all salted-up and cause cooling problems; these motors certainly don't need that!

BTW it's a good idea to scrupulously maintain the cooling system on these motors, and it's recommended to replace the impeller every year; if you overheat from loss of impeller, the block is likely to crack.
