Hi,

I need some advice on repowering my twin counter rotating Johnson 150's VRO with something newer, but used. Everything on my 1988 Pursuit is original to the boat, including dual OMC controls - with the exception of new seastar hydraulic steering.

What brand engine (150's) and up to what year could be an easy swap without changing to much?

Thanks,
Mike

with out changing controls you have to stay with Johnson Evinrude. 1996 and newer will require a wiring harness adapter. stay away from the Evirude FICHT motors. the model # will start with and "F".

OMC came out with the 60-degree V6 engines in 1991. These carb'd engines are compact, were pretty bulletproof and may be a little more fuel efficient than your older crossflow. They were available in 150 and 175 hp. As Tas noted, they will plug right into your existing harness through 1995.
