I would like to find a DP lower. I think my drive is a 1983 or 84 270T 1.61 V8.
I have seen one or two 280 DP drives for sale locally, but not sure how to identify a compatible lower. Are the cases stamped for ratio?
Any idea of a reasonable price for used?

Small block V8 Volvo Dp's use a 1:95 gear ratio. If you have a AQ series outdrive then any AQ series lower DP gear unit will mate right up.

The gear ratio is stamped on the plate attached on the upper gear unit

If your present drive is in good shape, you can replace just the lower unit to convert it. My guess is where the helmet is screwed to the upper gear box has a single bolt. Not the 2 bolt type shown in Bills picture. And no, you can't just change the helmet. They mount to the steering fork going into the transom shield different, and no you can't just change the complete fork.
