Default 186cc/Yamaha 115hp electrical issues

I have a 2008 115hp 4 stroke yamaha on my 186CC KeyWest. I am having issues getting it started and it appears to be electrical? We had the symptoms of a dead battery about a month ago. The old battery was over a year old so I went to BJ's and bought a comperable deep cycle marine battery. When we installed it the boat started fine and I ran it that weekend. The next weekend I took it out and it started again fine and I ran it that day and I had no issues. I went to start it the following weekend and it acted as if the battery was dead again. At that point I pulled the new battery off and brought it ashore and and hooked it up to the battery charger. The brand new battery started pulling a complete charge as if it was totally dead? I verified no lights or accesories were turned on. At that point I took the original battery(which had been charging for two weeks and was showing as fully charged on the battery charger) back out and installed it. The boat still acted as if it had a dead battery (would sluggishly turn over but not enough to start). I did npt have a lot of time to fool with it last weekend so I figured I would try again today. I took the now fully recharged new battery back out to the boat and hooked it the the old battery via jumper cables and it still acts as if the battery is dead? I checked both batteries with a volt meter an both are fully charged. When I hooked the volt meter to the battery connections entering the motor itself it is showing full power at that point so I think I can safely say it is getting full juice to the motor. Raising and lowering the motoer now it sees like it barely had enough juice to raise and lower the motor? If I have two fully charged batteries, nothing is turned on that would draw power and the motor won't crank and is acting like it isn't even getting enough juice to rais and lower the motor what is going on? Unfortunately I can't even get it to shore to take it to the shop at the moment!

I have cleaned the battery terminals /connections inside of the connectors with a wire brush but unfortunately it hasn't made a difference.
Checked and cleaned the connections at the engine. Found the block where the battery wires come out of the transom and connect to the battery wires then go to the motor. I cleaned those terminals. Found the switch/ fuse in the center console and direct connected that connection to bypass that connection in case it was a bad switch/fuse. None of the above action had any affect on the problem at all. Every place I cleaned I measured to voltage with a volt meter and I am getting a full power measurement yet the motor won't barely turn over and now it barely has the power to raise or lower the motor?

Does anyone know if there is a wire block below the deck where there might be a connection that could have buildup causing connectivity failure? Anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for a 186cc. Thanks!

Hi Attml,

First thing, I would use a marine cranking battery, and if it still acts like it has been doing, leave the volt meter hooked to the terminals and crank the motor over or raise or lower the motor and see if you have a voltage drop.
Not likely, the starter or trem motor going bad at the same time, sounds like a voltage drop, from the battery throu the terminal or wrieing.
Good luck, hope you find the problem soon, let us know how you make out.

Bernie,
