How often should the bilge pump be run? My 98 Sea Ray (BR185)has an automatic float switch that runs the pump when the water level gets high enough(when I'm hosing out the storage area ). Since my boat has an automatic switch do I need too run the bilge manually at anytime?

i keep my pump on auto all the time (boat is in the water). before i get underway, i switch it to manual just to get out any water in the bilge. may not have been enough to activate the switch.

I know in my case at least, I get up on plane and then run manual until nothing comes out (or very little).
