I have a 1978 40gant [4 hp ] merc, and has no spark. Would it be the ign. box.[ they call it a switch box ]? Any way to check it out ? The box is 200+ dollers, Too much for that old motor. Is there any way to test the trigger piece and the top coils?

There sould be a way to test it in your manual.
If you dont have one, get one.
You can try the library if your as cheap (frugal) as i am,:D but i bought one.
Then just folow the step by step tests to find the problem.
