Got it home & same pee stream on muffs-
Decided to put in test tank before trip to lake----NO PEE STREAM
Put on muffs while STILL IN TANK & again got deceint Pee stream -
Took off muffs & still had deceint Pee stream (running/still in tank)
Let set in tank 1/2 hr & started (no muffs) -- NO pee stream--

I'd pull it apart to check, sounds like the job was done wrong.

Re: 1977 175HP Johnson

your is fairly easy. remove the lower carbs. below and behind them you will find a double bar that is bolted in the center. this is called a bell crank. it is part of the shift linkage. loosen the center bolt, until the shaft on the port side becomes free. this is the shift rod, do not turn it. now you can take the bolts out of the lower unit, there is one under the trim tab just above the prop. the lower should just drop out.
