I have a 1973 evinrude, once I start the motor it leaks a lot of oil from the prop, first I thought it was engine oil but it's not, there is a constant leak whenever the motor is on, and I see a lot of oil where the lower unit gaskets are, around the lower unit, please help
You didn't mention what type of engine you have, have you checked the lower unit oil, is it full? If it only happens when the is running it is most likely excess crankcase oil. What oil ratio are you running? Are you running it on a hose with muffs?
Whatever they don't burn comes out the prop, what's a lot of it? 2 gallons of oil, a small puddle of grey oil, a couple of spots? When I was a kid i'd call my dad about an oil leak , he'd have me park the car and check, he'd laugh at me and say that's a couple of drops, not a puddle, I'd always panic being a gearhead like him. Can you post a pic?
Also like questioned in the last post, what oil ratio are you running? 50:1, 25:1, 1:1 ???
as long as I have the engine on it coms out, about 1/8 of a gallon with in 15 minutes of leaving the engine on, thank you, I could help with the car if in need, LOL
That's normal ratio. I run a 90 v4, there is always oil in the prop hub after running it on muffs, you don't see it when it's in a barrel/the lake but it's there, it will float on the surface of the barrel. Now it's not enough to change the oil in my van but a small puddle is normal especially at idle (you shouldn't rev a motor on muffs anyways)
