Default Evinrude superfast twin 7hp gearcase

This motor has the two line fuel system. The gear case was full of water and the bearing or seal on the back on prop shaft is beat up.

Do I turn it upside down and take the bottom cap off? Will anything fly out? How does that seal/bearing go in? Will a 1/2" socket go over the prop shaft or would it take a 3/4"? Thanks.

If you are going to reseal the lower unit it needs to come off of the motor. There are other seals under the water pump and on the shift shaft that should be replaced also.

They never made a 7hp that I know of. What model # is it? It's on the transom mount. They come apart differently depending on the hp/model.

Actually I think it is a 7 1/2hp. I have another that looks just like it only I was told it is a 15hp. Strange they didn't put it on the cowling. Here's the numbers..

Evinrude superfast twin 7 ½ hp SN# 15012-44241
15hp 15012-47097

I've got the lower unit off and upside down in a vice. There wasn't any oil around the water pump, just the prop shaft. It looks like someone pounded the last piece rather badly and is probably the reason it leaks.

From the S/N it's a 15hp, 1955 or 1954 I believe. Rick

rjezuit is correct, 15012 = a 15 hp built in 1954,1955.
