I need advice on how to get the midsection on a 1978 Evinrude 35HP off. I have a worn out rubber grommet atop the water line and it's not pumping water out of the tell tale. I replaced the impeller and water pump. Blew air through the line. Also, began to take off screws to attempt to drop the midsection. I have all screws out that I can see but I do not know if there is a hidden screw somewhere that is keeping it attached to the powerhead. My manuals for Johnson/Evinrude only go to 1970. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a diagram of the exhaust housing ... is part #115 what you need to replace?

The numbers in red next to part numbers 2, 3 and 5 are the number of those bolts required.

Hope this helps!

Yes part 115 is the part I am trying to replace. I am going to try that now. Any tips or tricks on how best to remove and replace? Thank you for such a quick response. :D

I found that just removing the powerhead is the easiest way to replace that part on my 35 horse Evinrude it looks harder than it really is Good Luck!
