I recently purchased a 97 40HP Mariner magnum, it starts fine and idles very smoothly but will not rev up. I have this motor on a 14ft tracker alum boat and this should push the boat easily but doesnt. I have rebuilt the carbs, replaced the stator and still no luck. From a cold start she will rev up and pick up speed until i let off the throtle, if i give it throttle again it will just bog! i have tried giving it choke to iliminate a fuel issue and chocking it will make it die. I did notice the plugs were dirty so i cleaned them out and took it for another ride and same thing... cold she would pick up the ease off the throttle and no go. I was running half a tank of mixed 50:1 gas plus the oil injection but topped it off with strait gas and still no change. I will try new plugs as it does seem to have a miss when trying to rev up once warmed up but was wondering if the sitchbox could also be a culprit or even a bad coil? i have seen coils cause problems when they warm up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
