Trying to replace the impeller in my '69 evinrude 115, and I can't get the lower unit off. I tied a string to the wires at the knife connectors, and I removed the five bolts (including the one behind the trim tab) and it won't lower. Any ideas?

theres one more by the trim tab...kinda in a sneaky place. Took me 20 mins. before I found it...thought I had to take a hammer to it or something. I believe you take the trim tab off and then you will see the other bolt.

I took the one behind the trim tab off, but there is an alan bolt that is used to loosen the trim tab so you can adjust it. so maybe that bolt goes all the way to the lower unit??? Thanks for the idea, I will check tomorrow.

ok, you were right, one bolt under the trim tab. Got the lower unit off. Do you know how to take apart the water pump housing.

yeah, it was just the four bolts, holding the water pump housing together, it was just a bugger gettin it apart. changed the impeller, now trying to get the lower unit back on, but it won't go all the way on. I got the tubes lined up, but it seems like the drive shaft isn't going up all the way, is there a trick to it?
