My 1995 Yamaha 85 runs rich at idle up to 1300 rpm and runs great after that up to WOT of 4500 rpm. It will foul plugs after 25hours or so.I do troll a lot but at 1700 rpm. I don't spend much time near idle.

1. had the carbs adjusted and timing checked. They also did a de-carb. The compression is also excellent. The motor has about 200 hrs on it. They say it runs fine in tank but it doesn't in the water.

The previous owner only put about 10 hrs on it in five years. I've put 100 hrs on it in 3 months.

1. Could the carbs be gummed up in such a way to make it run like this?
I know it should run smoother at slow speeds.

These guys want 750.00 to go through the carbs.

What do you think?

check the throttle cam pickup adjustment, its the cam and small roller that runs on it beside the carbs, narrow the gap and retry. it should be roughly .010' sometimes less works well as long as the throttle can return to idle. if the roller has a flat spot on it pry it off and replace it. lube the cam.

They checked out all the adjustments on the carbs and synced them.
