Default Fuel pump 1987 Yamaha 70 etlh (no spring?)

Just bought the above mentioned motor. Decided to check fuel pump(I have not had engine in the water yet) When I removed the two mounting bolts fuel spilled out telling me it was bad. When I disassembled it the diaphragm looks fine pretty new actually but the spring and seat are not there. I did not drop them it looks like someone forgot to put it back. Would no spring cause pump to leak at mounting screws as does a bad diaphragm? Thanks for your help.

Just found another post about an old 90 that didn't have a spring in fuel pump. Does it not take one for some reason?
