Hello,

I am in need of purchasing a used lower unit. I need help with identifying a lower unit that will work for my 1990 Force 120 CFI 2 stroke. This is a stubby shaft with an ?O? driveshaft and an ?A? forward gear. Unit can not be rebuilt. Does someone know if I can use any like type short shaft lower unit on this or does it have to be the O/A version?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

almost any lower from any three cylinder or four cylinder Chrysler or Force from 1980 up until about 1992 will fit.---as long as the drive shaft length is the same. (they made the engines in 20 and 25 inch versions.)

Sometime around 1992, Mercury changed the drive shaft and crankshaft splines

Okay, I have a two piece shaft, if I have the right upper shaft for my motor, will it matter if the stubby shaft lower unit was connected to a short or long upper shaft? Does the stubby shaft on the lower unit come in different lengths to be used with the differing lengths of the upper shaft? Also, will my linkage work for a different forward gear letter?
