Okay restore VS fix her up...

But at $200 who cares which right?

Included trailer, boat, and non working motor..
The controls are missing too...

Should be a good project..
Goal is to have her nice enough my wife will want to take her out next spring and summer!

She is a 1990 Sunbird Barletta 204... as seen in the pictures..

It should have a 115 mounted on it, so who knows when that changed..

Hull is in okay shape, some gell coat damage, nothing clean through..

1/2 of the deck is in good shape..
the other half... not so much..

The boat is missing the double seat, and the rear bench has been changed..

I want to go back to a more factory look on everything...

Cuddy is cluttered but not bad..

includes the bikini top...

Re: My $200 purchase... time to restore it..

Thanks!

I doubt it will be an easy project..

But at $200 even my wife could not pass up that deal...

I was concerned about the trailer being a single axle, however, I read the boat is like 2500 lbs ... so I am okay with it now..

Most of the 204's I have seen were on doubles...

I have a buddy that can patch the hull for now.

I aim to part the 90 out..
the lower unit should be good as it ran recently,
one of the heads was recently "stolen" from the motor though..

Not sure what to do there... new head, new motor...

The boat is missing the controls too..

So I will see there...

max rating is a 175, I would like to put a 150 or so on it...
I will have to do some shopping there...

I know a boat motor repair teacher with a 150 mercury, complete....too bad he wants 3k for it....

You guys keep getting these 'steals' for boats...makes me want to get rid of mine...I paid too much for it! :p

Re: My $200 purchase... time to restore it..

I will post pictures tonight when I get back to the house and download them...

Got the boat to the house, and did some inpsection...

The trailer - 2 cross members have rusted through on the bottom and need replaced. Not to bad really. The leaf springs are rusted and need replaced I think too. All in all, I may replace the trailer, as I want a double axle with brakes.. but it works for now...

Boat - the rear seats were shot shot shot. I think they were made from home grade board not marine. They are now out..
The good thing is... the deck of this boat is fiberglass. so that rotten wood was not sitting against anything. I got into the bilge area, and from what I can tell, the stringers at the rear by the transom are solid.

I have my fears about the transom, and will know more when I get the motor off.

Anyone here know how to tell the year of a motor from the serial #s?

Mine is a Evinrude V4 90 serial # J0571431

Pictures tonight

Okay..

Motor..

Did the research..

It is a 1985 Evinrude 90 hp Electric Tilt/Trim 25" shaft.

One of the pistons lost its oil injector and is fried..
Lower end is good, but I doubt I rebuild it.

The boat came with a Evinrude 115 from the factory..

I did find a nice Suzuki 150 I am thinking about picking up...

Re: My $200 purchase... time to restore it..

Congrats, that was my first boat, but mine was blue. I kept it for four years and loved it. It rode great, but the gas tank was not that big, only 30 gallons or so. Mine had a 120 johnson on it and top speed was probably 38mph. I think a 150hp would be best if you could get one. Mine came with a single axle trailer which worked out fine, but I never had to trailer it that far.

Dang I like it. It has a lot of potential! I think every man has something in the blood or genes that when we start a "project" it has to be rebuilt to look amazing in all aspects.

When we started with our boat we were thinking a few quick fixes and new seats, now we are up to a bare hull (due to new transom stringer and deck for safety), looking for new steering wheel, going to build new engine cover with sub woofer box, new stereo, new speakers, new wiring, tons of body work, paint, hahahahaha list goes on and on and on and on.......

Good luck with your resto, because that is what it will turn into :) Then you will get "The bug" and its over....... keep us updated I can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks.

I think the single axle could work, however with the issues it has..
I think an upgrade is in order...

Did your trailer have rollers also or rails?

Mine is a shoreline with rollers...

I think you are right..

for now, get it on the water and enjoy it for a while..

then I will run across that second good deal that floats, runs, etc..
and pull this one back home for a full blown what not to wear make over!!

Re: My $200 purchase... time to restore it..

my trailer was a galvanized bunk trailer. it was the original trailer that came with the boat becuase it actually had the same matching pinstripes that were on the boat.

Re: My $200 purchase... time to restore it..

I sold the Evinrude... for $200.... score!!

Started cleaning... and wow... what a mess..

I wish people would use common sense..

Use marine grade plywood, make drain holes, and think some when doing projects... wow.. okay so I am a little judgemental!!

Here are some pictures of what I found....

Re: My $200 purchase... time to restore it..

The Suzuki made it home..

She is a big V6 150 super spark..
(twin plugs)

I guess that is a way to cure fouled plugs?

I have seen a few cars over the years with dual plugs...
But never seen a great reason for them, just added expense..

However, perhaps on a big 2 stroke...??

Anyway... pics of it soon too...
