i am new to this forum. I am looking at a real nice 79 Ranger w/ a 79 150 hp. Everything looks like new. one owner . am told the engine is the original. My question is if the engine was well maintained as it appears everything was, how long will this engine last if i keep up taking good care of it? Thanks in advance for your help

You should do a compression test, inquire about last time of service (proof is plus), and take it to local lake for test drive. With regular maintence it should be good for another owner but I am just a cadet. Just giving insight.

The engine will last a very long time if you treat it right. Good gas, correct oil mix, correct prop. The engine on my avatar is a 1975. Parts are available if you are prepared to do work yourself. Many dealers/service outlets have stopped working on these engines.

I've got a 1952 Merc KG-7 that is still solid. I'm doing the first rebuild it has had since new, only because I wanted to replace the rings, seals, gaskets and ignition components. I figured after 57 years it wouldn't hurt. :)
