1978 4hp Evinrude recoil spring

My 1978 4hp Evinrude recoil spring rewinds the rope very sllllooowwwwlly and reluctantly. But it does the job. Is this mechanism failing or does it just need some lubrication?

Lubrication. Stuff some rags under the recoil and work it while spraying inside where the spring is with WD 40 or a similar product. If that doesn't do the job, you will have to take it apart and give it a good cleaning and lubrication. You should have an OMC owners manual to do that. Best of luck. Rick.

A good dousing with WD-40 did the trick. Thanks for the advice.
