Any one know were I can get a new drive shaft for a 1959 Evinrude model 5518 5.5hp. Just got my hands on it and went to replace the impeller. The drive shaft has a lot of wear and the seal support pin is ground flush with the shaft any suggestions? Thanks

Well, the pin is the least of your worries, simply put in a new one. Where is the wear on the shaft? If at the oil seal, you probably need to replace it. They always wear a bit where they drive against the lower shaft coupling, which is not a problem unless it is real severe. I have a couple (used), if you are interested send me a PM.

A machine shop can also build it up again.

I find that most 5.5 LU's still leak even after a new seal kit is installed. On mine I just make sure the oil is changed regularly and they've given me no problems.
