I have been having a problem w/ my 2000 stingray that has a 135hp mercruiser. Recently it was stalling when it was idoling and was not cruising on the water like it should. It was basicialy going at a trolling speed when the throttle was down half way which is no where near correct. I got it looked at by a respected bot mechanic in my area, he was a referal from a friend who uses him. He took a look at the boat, went throught the whole engine to see the problem because he could notice it as well. The final result was the carburator in which he rebuilt.
I thought all was well, we launched the boat and it started and did not die when it was idoling like it was before. Then as soon as we tried tgo reverse it and change gear it would stall. (not as bad as it did before). So my father and myself ran it longer thinkin the carb got rebuilt and give it time. We ended up unsuccesfully reversing out of the ramp so my father decided to change gears fast in reverse and it worked. So we are at a trolling pace again, not as bad as the previose week when the boat was stalling. The motor did not sound like it should. We figured we would run it a bit at a slow pace to see if that was the problem. It was not, the boat would not accelerate like it did previosely last year and like it had done earlier in th year.
A little history on the boat. it has less than 60hrs on it which is great for a 2000, 135hp merc. not problems prior to this siince i knew becasue i purchased from a family friend. Could it be a cable in my throttle possibly holding the motor up? because it seems like its not getting enought gas or somethings up?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
