newbie to boating need help!!

i have a mercury 50hp motor serial# 6588517. im having problem finding info on it. i need to know year and specs but i didnt get anything with it. its a old model and i would appreceate it if someone could lead me in the right direction. thank:confused:

I believe your motor is a 1985. I could be wrong. Post some of the issue you are having with it and maybe a photo or two and you wont believe the help you get. I just fixed mine up just last week. A 1968 Mercury 200. I couldn't have done it without these nice folks on this site!

You can go to www.mercurymarine.com and register your motor in their parts and accessories section. After it's registered you can look up parts and exploded drawings as well. Another poster Chris1956 indicates you can go to www.maxrules.com look in the Merc model year guide, and the serial number.
