I asked this question on the boat forum non motor and did not get a answer so I will try here.
I have a 1985 Champion 184FS bass boat with a 1985 Evinrude Xp150 motor I am redoing this boat. Question, there is a installed 24gal plastic fuel tank on the boat which I removed dont know if that is how the boat came or if it was in stalled later. I cleaned tank and in doing so I found some type of filter looking item it is closed on both ends with screen material in between, there is a metal rod inside the screened area, there is a thin cable almost like a fishing leader attached to it, however it was not attached to anything on the other end unless it was looped under one of the screws on the sending unit. What is this and what does it do.
