Hey-

I have a 1999 mercury outboard 175 on 20' whaler....

I recently replaced the waterpump that died on me and brought it back in river last night--- Revs in neutral mint--- high rpms low rpms...etc... I go to put it into gear either fwd or rev and it cuts out--- it also dies when i bring it back in to neutral. Water pump is working fine and engine fires right away but there is a slight sputtering like air shooting out and low rpms....

Any suggestions-

Hi,

Do a compression test on it. You may have a leaky headgasket.
