Hello everyone,
The following was the condition prior to replacing conponents: This 40 hp mercury outboard starts, idles, and runs well at low speeds when the drive is engaged. It also appears to hit the necessary high rpms when in neutral. This suggests that the carburetor is working as expected. I have just recently replaced the stator with a new CDI 174-5255 unit and a used switch box. So far, I have not made things worse but the same conditions as in the beginning still remain.
Can anyone shed some light on the high speed coils or suggest a different approach?
Ick
