Mercruiser 3.0 Died!

I have a 1988 Glastron and it has done great for the last 3 years but last week I was driving across the lake and it died. Didnt cut out or anything just died and wouldnt restart.Got towed to the ramp and checked, Its getting gas and fire but will not start.Could it be a broke timming chain? Help cause I dont have a clue and cant afford to buy a new one.

first you might have better luck with an answer in the mercruser forum, saying that though it is possible to have a broken timing chain that would stop an engine cold. Do you still have compression? Does it sound the same when you turn over the motor as it did before?Does it have CDI or a distributer? It could be a crankshaft position sensor. I hope you can get it fixed.
