Default Newbie to site want to repair a 1965 5hp evinrude

I am new to the group. I purchased a used Evenrude Fisherman outboard and plan on working on it this winter for next season's fishing trips. It is a model #5502M serial number E05731. From what I found out so far, it is a 1965 5HP motor. I have been surfing the web to see where I can get a repair manual (with exploded view) and where to get parts. The motor's stearing arm has been broken off so I need to find a new bracket and arm.

Can anyone offer any information on acquiring parts for this motor? Are there any web sites, or repair shops who deal in used parts for this motor? I live in Utah, and plan on making some calls tomorrow to see if I can find parts or repair shops in my state.

I appreciate any comments and advice from the group.

Thank you,

Jed

In looking for manuals, I discovered that it would cost me somewhere around $100 for the manuals produced by the Ken Cook Co. I did some searching and found another repair book called

Johnson/Evinrude Outboards, 1-2 Cylinders, 1956-70
by Joan Coles, Seloc Publications, Nichols / Seloc

This book runs right around $25. Has anyone had any experience with this book?

Thanks,

Jed

FYI. If you're interested in a factory service manual, there are a few on ebay.

Evinrude 5 HP 5502 5503 Angler 5HP Service Manual 1965 - $17.95

Stick to a factory manual, much better in the long run.

My wife and I have been laid off, and it doesn't look like I'll be doing anything with this motor. I am going to sell it, but would it be best to sell it as is, or would I get more if I sold it piece by piece?

Thanks for everyones help.

I would think it would be quicker to recoupe your money if you sold it as is in one piece.
