Hello to all,
I have just a bought my first boat: 1986, 14' Achilles inflatable w/ Mariner 30hp manual start. I am pretty mechanical, although new to outboards, but for the life of me, I can't figure out if this motor will be able to run a lighting circut and charge a battery. The service manual states that it can do both, but there is only a diagram for the electric start. I intend to run nav lights, fish finder, marine radio, and small live well. I will use 2 6 volt deep cycle batteries ran in series. I have attached a couple of pics to help solve the mystery.

You may not have a charging ciruit on that motor. Look for 2 yellow wires coming from under the flywheel. They will go to a rectifier if you have a charging circuit.
